Communism & Solidarity with private guide

It all started here, in the Gdansk Shipyard. On the 17th of September 1980, for the first time in the history of Eastern Bloc, an independent trade union called 'Solidarity' was founded. It was the first crack in the Communist system of the Warsaw Pact countries. You will learn about Lech Walesa – the leader of Solidarity, who became a symbol of the Polish fight against Communism. We will start the tour at the European Solidarity Centre, a multimedia museum full of interactive exhibits which commemorate the Polish fight for freedom. We will also visit the former Shipyard area with the historical Gate No.2 and BHP Room (Work Safety and Hygiene Room) where the 'August Agreement', the first significant social contract between the people and the Communist government, was signed. On this tour, we will present you the truly moving story of Polish civil resistance and how people united for a cause can overcome the system.
